Introduction: On behalf of Bridge of Hope (BoH), a 27-year nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being and quality of life for children with disabilities in Armenia, we humbly present this grant proposal to seek funding for establishing musical therapy rooms at our centers in Ijevan, Dilijan, Berd, and Noyemberyan cities. This grant will help enhance our centers’’ capacity to develop novel therapeutic practices that are proven to greatly improve the agency and livelihood of our members. We wish to provide children with disabilities access to musical therapy through the creation of music rooms, to help them develop social, cognitive, and communication skills, boost self-esteem, and promote overall wellness by using musical practice as a catalyst.

Executive Summary: By creating musical therapy rooms at our centers in Tavush Marz Region, we seek to provide these children with the necessary equipment and instruments to participate in therapeutic music programs tailored to their individual needs. Our goal is to make a profound and lasting impact on their physical, emotional, and mental well-being, ultimately improving their health, social integration, and overall quality of life. After extensive research on the overall benefits of this form of development, we believe that musical therapy will allow our members to accelerate their progress unilaterally across the educational programs we provide them free of charge.

Why Your Support Matters: Music therapy has proven to be a powerful tool that positively influences the lives of children with disabilities. Through this project, your generous support will directly contribute to enhancing their well-being, as well as benefiting their families and society as a whole. Through our research, we believe that these music rooms will provide the children with the following benefits that are holistic and lifetime in their benefits.

  1. Improved Communication and Social Skills: A scoping review on musical interaction with children and young people with severe or profound intellectual and multiple disabilities showed the effectiveness of music therapy in enhancing social interaction, communication, and motor abilities in children with disabilities.
  2. Enhanced Cognitive Abilities: An overview of music therapy and other music-based interventions in pediatric health care highlighted the positive effects of music therapy on cognitive abilities in children and adolescents. Music therapy was found to address clients’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs.
  3. Reduction of Pain, Anxiety, and Stress: The same overview mentioned above also demonstrated the effectiveness of music therapy in reducing pain, anxiety, and stress in pediatric healthcare settings.
  4. Development of Fine and Gross Motor Skills: A systematic review on the role and efficacy of music therapy in learning disabilities found that music therapy can improve reading skills and phonological awareness in dyslexic children, indirectly supporting the development of fine and gross motor skills involved in reading and language processing.
  5. Increased Quality of Life: The overview of music therapy and other music-based interventions in pediatric health care concluded that music therapy can be considered a safe and generally well-accepted intervention to alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life for children and adolescents in medical settings.

The Need: Your support is crucial in realizing our vision. By funding the establishment of musical therapy rooms, your donation will enable us to provide children with disabilities the instruments, equipment, and resources they need to engage in therapeutic music programs. With your partnership, we can create a nurturing environment where these children can explore their musical talents, express themselves, and build vital life skills.
