Introduction: At the Bridge of Hope NGO, we are dedicated to improving the lives of children with psychosocial disabilities in the towns of Ijevan, Dilijan, Berd, and Noyemberyan located in the Tavush Marz region of Armenia. BOH has been active for over 27 years and at the service of this isolated community and their families in Armenia. Through our contribution over these 2 decades, we have helped thousands of children develop and integrate into society; living fulfilling lives in peace and dignity. We believe that your organization’s contribution can drastically increase the efficacy of our programs by modernizing the environment in which we provide our essential educational programs. By empowering our teams of volunteers and educators, these sensory rooms will allow BOH to help more children in a more powerful way.

Help us create the sensory rooms that will provide this essential support and developmental opportunities for our children and their families.

Why It Matters: Children with psychosocial disabilities in the Tavush region face a number of challenges. Beyond the general absence of state-sponsored programs, psychological disabilities have a negative social connotation in remote regions and greatly hinder the ability of children and their families to integrate into communities. This project aims to address these difficulties by establishing dedicated four sensory rooms at our “Child Development and Social Inclusion” centers in Ijevan, Dilijan, Berd, and Noyemberyan. The sensory room will create a safe and supportive environment for children to explore their senses, leading to improved sensory processing and a holistic adaptation to modern urban environments.

What is a sensory room? A sensory room for children with psychological disabilities is a therapeutic space designed to provide personalized sensory input to individuals with special needs. These rooms are equipped with various tools and equipment to create a controlled sensory environment that helps children regulate their sensory experiences. The goal of a sensory room is to promote relaxation, improve sensory integration, and enhance readiness for learning and social interaction. The room incorporates activities that address different sensory systems such as tactile, vestibular, and proprioceptive, aiming to develop body awareness, balance, and sensory processing skills. It provides a safe and calming environment where children can engage in sensory-based activities, such as bouncing on therapy balls, participating in circuit rotations, practicing yoga poses, or exploring sensory bins. The room has been designed by a partnership of BOH and Ijevan’s local architectural trade council. The combined understanding of our professionals, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and the designer architects of the institute, has developed a comprehensive system that allows for a circular rotation of participants prior to and after their classroom experiences. We believe that by initiating the improvements below, we will drastically increase the adaptiveness of the children we help as well as increase the overall quality of their educational experience.

Budget for one room: $11,790

Conclusion: By donating to this project, you will be supporting the development of a dedicated sensory space that will help children with psychosocial disabilities in Ijevan develop their senses, regulate their sensory input, and improve their overall well-being. Your contribution will ensure that children have access to the resources they need to thrive and reach their full potential. Please join us in creating a sensory room that will make a difference in the lives of these children.
